Our exotic bird ambassadors live permanently at the Sanctuary, and have been sensitized to appearing in front of audiences.
Meet an Education Ambassador
Lucy is a Moluccan cockatoo. Fondly termed a “love sponge,” the cockatoo is a favorite among bird fanciers, due to its striking appearance and good temperament. Lucy is 25 years old and has been living with Darlene, the Sanctuary director, and Darlene’s husband, Brad, since it was a weaned bird. Lucy came from a professional breeder in the Tucson area.
Gypsy is a Catalina macaw. This type of macaw is popular because they are very intelligent and readily bond with their owner. She is about 10 years old and is a cross between a scarlet macaw and a blue-and-gold macaw. Gypsy came from a professional breeder in the Tucson area. As Darlene would fondly say, “We live in Gypsy’s house!”
