Providing a Sanctuary for Abandoned or Relinquished Domestic Birds
We receive and provide sanctuary for a number of domestic birds, including all types of parrots, chickens, domestic ducks, geese, pheasants, peafowl, turkeys, and other domestic fowl. Sadly, many of these domestic birds arrive at our sanctuary because they are no longer wanted after a holiday or school project, or have outgrown their surroundings. Sometimes, domestic animals are simply and thoughtlessly released into the desert or public parks to fend for themselves – and become prey animals for desert wildlife.
For many of the Center’s sanctuary animals, adoption is possible.
The Adoption Process
Requests for adoption will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Some of the factors that will be considered include:
- Reason(s) for wanting to adopt a particular type of domestic animal
- Appropriate environmental, cage, and/or shelter situation
- Other animals/wildlife sharing the immediate area
- Financial capability to support food and medical requirements of the animal(s) for its remaining life
There is an adoption fee for every domestic animal. This fee is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Please contact us at (520) 574-3579 or complete the form below for an adoption request.
